Fancy bike rack hits Grand Avenue

I enjoyed locking my bike at the fancy new bike rack/shelter at 30th Ave and 31th St in Astoria. Brilliant to put it in front of the liquor store! I only live 2 short blocks away. But yes, I bike there all the time for shopping needs. I’m all for fancy bike racks, but I’d prefer more less fancy bike racks. Or bike racks on Steinway where there are no parking meters.

Still, I approve.

It seems tremendous expense for parking for roughly 8-10 bikes. Those upside down u shaped bike racks are so prevalent, but I still feel there must be a better way. And I’m not talking about a high-heeled shoe or something like David Byrne is always going on about.

Great blog, keep up the good work, Thanks.

That’s the best liquor store in the neighborhood! I guess DOT figured it was a good spot for the park and ride shelter, but I would have put it over by the Ditmars stop for the folks who live beyond the end of the line.

I strongly agree with that. I live beyond the end of line, and I ride to the train stop all the time. One of the restaurants on 31st and ditmars put a (uncovered) bike rack outside of the rock gym for their delivery bikes, and between the chinese take out places, the subway, etc., every parking meter, signpost and everything is taken up with bikes, every day! anyway, Hear hear! Diotmars bike shelters!
