Bike sharing program in D.C.
The New York Times reports on this.
Seems useful for a place like NYC, where many people don’t bike because they have nowhere to keep a bike.
We’ll see if it works. I always feel it’s best to let another try these things out first, to work out the kinks.

120 whole bikes?! It seems like ClearChannel (or whoever the JC Decaux equivalent in this deal is) made out ike a bandit. That´s so few bikes over such a large area that it´s just setting itself up for failure. The ad company´ll get all the ad space, and unless the program expands aggressively, not enough people will subscribe. Sigh.
so instead of sharing a bike to save space, i’m thinking of getting a folding bike. Downtube has caught my eye (downtube.com/ss-index.html) Any thoughts on them??
Thank you! Love your blog!
I’ve never heard of Downtube before. But they look great. Just keep in mind that folding bikes don’t carry things (except riders) very well. On the plus side, you can carry *it* very well. It’s amazing where you can put a full-sized bike in even a small apartment. Bike hooks do wonders.
